Competitions

Competition is NOT a requirement for participation in the club.

Competition is a good growth tool, as long as the participants remember the goal is to "better your best".  So if the best score they have ever hit was a 15 and they complete a round with a 16, that is a huge win. Competitions also provide opportunities for growth of self-confidence since kids who don't think they are good often win. It is hard to explain, but there are many times we have given awards for a score of zero, or if you prefer archery, there are even awards given for negative scores.  We are not going to "push" anyone to participate in a competition.  We will however always encourage members to get better as a human and in skills.

Shooting sports does not generally give out "participation" awards.  However for Record Books, "better your best" is something that you need to show.  So you don't have to go to competition, you do need to show that you are working/practicing and showing that today you are better than you were yesterday. Record Books provide a huge college scholarship opportunity. Email the Club Manager to inquire about the next Record Books training event.

If you are ready to compete, there are many opportunities available to you. The website iclays.com is a platform that used for registration for many shoots. You can find a shotgun competition or three pretty much every weekend of the year. These shoots are organized by many different organizations including 4-H clubs (you can filter by tournament type). Opportunities for archery, rifle, pistol, and muzzleloading are less abundent, but there are plenty to keep you busy.

You can find a list of competitions here. It will be updated througout the year as new opportunities and more details become available.
